Besides my birthday, this is probably the most exciting time of the year for me! Of course I am getting back some of the money i worked hard for.
Here are some tips on how to spend your refund:
- Invest in yourself
Invest in a new craft, What do you like to do? Invest in something that could potentially bring you income later. Let’s be honest, living off one source of income can be a challenge: unless you are already earning six figures. Besides your 9-5, what other skills do you have that you can put to work?
2. Pay off High interest debt or student loans
Not news to anyone that DEBT has to be paid off eventually. America has trained us to think that debt is normal and that this is the only way to live a normal life . In most cases, students loans are unavoidable with the cost of education in this country, but they can be regulated and eventually paid off. Financial education and literacy are two important things to posses today. I made a decision this year to be smart with how I spend and how much in student loans I take out in a year. To be honest, most educational expenses can be paid for out-of-pocket; If we sacrifice the right things. Compile and consolidate your loans and start paying them off slowly. Lastly, Avoid making minimum monthly payments only.
3. Save up for an emergency Fund
Life happens and unforeseen circumstances, situations that you can’t necessarily predict. I learnt this the hard way! I split up my pay check. Whatever I had left over after paying bills and necessities, i save up the rest. It takes a lot of discipline but it can be done.
4. Pay your tithe
Besides your hard work, God is the one who gives you strength and keeps you motivated and inspired to do better! The act of obedience in tithing is all that matters. Give to God what is due to him it does not match up to all that he has done for all of us.
Get a massage or travel to a place you’ve never been. There is still a lot out there we haven’t seen. Have fun; but be RESPONSIBLE!
